DJ Andy Leatham brings the sounds of 70’s soul and funk to Tinahely

Wasabi Tinahealy Courthouse

DJ Andy Leathem has been running his all vinyl Soul and Funk night, Wasabi, in Belfast and Dublin on and off for over 20 years. On 27th May he brings his love for Soul and Funk music to Tinahely and the Courthouse Arts Centre.

The premise is very simple, the purest Soul, the filthyist Funk, bit of Latin, bit of Hammond Groove some 60s Beat and then some! all aimed squarely at the dance floor.

With a tune selection the likes of which you’ve never heard before, expect to hear: Marlena Shaw, Gil Scott Heron, Nina Simone, Ananda Shankar, Jimmy Castor Bunch, James Brown, Joe Bataan, Stevie Wonder, Irma Thomas and Ann Sexton amongst many many others.

If the tunes don’t make you want to dance, check your pulse!

A backdrop of Blaxploitation and Cult movie visuals complete the Wasabi Club experience. Think Cleopatra Jones, Barbarella, Blacula, Rollerball, Dolemite and Superfly. If you like dancing and like Soul and Funk music then this is a night for you. *Disclaimer

*Even if you don’t like dancing, you’re still welcome to enjoy the tunes in a sitting position, if you can!

Tickets €5 available from https://www.courthousearts.ie/
