Graham Richmond, a Wicklow town-based teacher has just been announced by Fine Gael as the local area representative. Graham (49), a local family man of Wicklow Town has worked as a history, resource and games teacher in East Glendalough Secondary School for over a decade.
“My family and I have been lucky to be able to call Wicklow our home for over a decade now. We’ve got so much from this wonderful area and, for me, it feels like it’s time to give back. Politics for me is about serving the community – putting the needs of families front and centre when it comes to decision making.” commented Richmond after the announcement.
Graham’s brother Neale was earlier this year appointed Minister of State for the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment and Graham has future plans to follow in his footsteps by putting his name forward in next year’s Local Elections.
“We are all delighted and are looking forward to working with Graham in the future, he is a fine addition to the Fine Gael team in Wicklow.” commented Minister Simon Harris.
Graham, who has been heavily involved in the community in Wicklow town through his school life and links with Wicklow Rugby Club is passionate about becoming a strong voice and delivering investment, especially sports facilities for communities across Wicklow Town.
“Living and working in this great town has given me a brilliant insight into the challenges and opportunities facing us in the coming years. Being heavily involved in a number of local sports groups and having three young daughters, I know the importance of our outdoor amenities such as playgrounds, parks and sports facilities for our town and how they can be improved. We have such potential in Wicklow, so let’s capitalise on it.” said Richmond.
“I am delighted that Graham Richmond has been selected as a local area representative in Wicklow, he has a wonderful record of community service in Wicklow both within the school community and local sport. Wicklow Fine Gael is looking forward to Graham working with our team of a TD, Councillors and members helping us to build on the successes of Fine Gael in Wicklow. Graham will listen to all the people, rural and urban, hearing their concerns and helping to create a better future together.” commented Marie Culliton, Chair Fine Gael Wicklow Constituency.
