Wicklow Cheese maker ‘Cream of the Crop’ as he heads for National awards next month.

Wicklow Farmhouse Cheese

Following The Wicklow Cheese Companys recent selection for the GROW with ALDI programme, John Hempenstall could be described as the cream of the crop when it comes to cheese making.

Adding to his recent success, Johns has now been selected as finalist at The National Dairy Awards in the Best Artisan Cheese 2023 category. Wicklow Bán Brie is managed and handmade by John and his family. A family owned business in operation since 2005, the family works closely together from the first steps of milking the herd to the hand wrapping and packing of all their products.

The Hempenstall family farm lies between Croghan Mountain and the Irish Sea and they say that the proximity to the sea is what adds a unique and distinctive flavour to these seductively addictive cheeses.

The inaugural National Dairy Awards gala evening presentations will take place in the Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise on Thursday June 15, 2023.
