Avondale Mini All Ireland And Fun Day 

The club together with Avondale camogie club are running a hurling and camogie mini All Ireland on Saturday the 1st of July starting at 2.30pm and games will be finished by 6pm. 

There will be two competition  run off on the day, one for U8 to U10S (Date of birth in 2013/2015) and one for U11 to U14 (Date of birth 2009 to 2012) with mix team genders  There will also be a fun day and lots of activities There will be food drinks and a raffle run throughout the day.

To register your child to play  in the min All Ireland  register on the clubforce app which you can download to your mobile or your computer.  We  need a lot of help on the day with registration and help with food, drink table, car parking, manager for each team, first aid, games start and finish whistlers.

Senior Football Results 

Avondale senior football team travelled across the Wicklow gap to Hollywood gaa club to play Hollywood in the division 1A senior football league and Avondale secured their division one status with a hard fought win over a good Hollywood side. The full time score was Avondale  1-11(14) to Hollywood 0-11(11)  Well done lads 

Spornorship 

A big thank you from Avondale gaa club goes to Dan Morrissey for sponsoring a new set of jerseys to the Avondale U15 team.  The club appreciates the support from Morrissey and all the local business.  Thanks to Sean, Tracy and Catherine for their work on this. 

Camogie 

On Saturday evening  Avondale gaa club played host to the 2023 Glen dimplex premier junior all ireland  game. Wicklow v Cavan Avondale had three players represented on the co team they were as follows, Thea Cullen, Emma Byrne and Claudia Turner. It wasn’t to be for these three girls and their teammates as they played a very strong Cavan team. 

Well Done 

Well done to Ava Porter who lined out last Saturday on the U15  county camogie team in Echelon Centre of excellence Rathdrum. Well done Ava keep up the good work.

Avonmore F.C

Congratulations to the Avonmore U14 team who secured their place in the cup final beating Arklow United on a scoreline of 4-0 Time and date to be confirmed for the final well done lads.

Congratulations to Lucy Byrne from Clara L.G.F.A  who was on the Wicklow U14 county football team that have qualified for the All Ireland bronze final with a 2-08(14) to 1-09(12) victory over Donegal.  Well done Lucy and your teammates.

Congratulations to Rathdrum man Shane Farrar who received rugby  player of the year at the Wicklow R.F.C. annual dinner dance  at the weekend.

Evening of Poetry and Music in Glenmalure

To celebrate the launch of her latest poetry collection, ‘A Change in the Air,’ local and award-winning poet Jane Clarke will give a poetry reading in Glenmalure Lodge on Thursday June 1st at 8pm. This promises to be a most enjoyable evening and an opportunity to hear Jane delivering her own poetry, some of which is based on local themes. Jane’s poetry has been enjoyed on many occasions in Glenmalure over the years as she has participated in many local Heritage Week events organised by Glenmalure PURE Mile group and also at the 100 Lights winter walk.

The reading will be followed by light refreshments and the Thursday night traditional music session in Glenmalure Lodge. All are welcome to this free event.

Pilgrim Walks:
Following the tradition of pilgrimage, a series of walks has been organised to mark St Kevin’s Day on Saturday 3 rd June in Glendalough. Participants will walk towards Glendalough follows a choice of 7 different routes which will merge along the way with other walkers from the same area.

the route’s length, starting time, location etc
Each person will walk all or part of their chosen route finishing with a ‘gathering’ of walkers
sharing refreshments at the Hermitage Centre near St Kevin’s Church, Laragh around 1pm.
