Rescue operation at Greystones Harbour as vessel sinks leaving crew overboard

A large scale rescue mission took place just off Greystones Harbour earlier today, Bank Holiday Monday following a 999/112 call saying the vessel was taking in water.

The Maritime Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) deployed the Greystones Coastguard Unit along with rescue helicopter ‘Rescue116’. A call was also made via the Maritime radio network for local vessels to assist.

The 16ft open vessel which was partially sunk approximately 1 mile off the coast of Greystones had a crew of 3 onboard, a couple and their dog Lilly on board. Despite the trio going overboard, all three were wearing life jackets and were recovered safely from the water with no medical assistance required.

The boat has since been pulled from the water.
