39 competitors from Leinster TaeKwon Do made their way to Coventry earlier in the month to compete in the 2023 International Championships.

Led by instructors Tom Thornton & Caroline O’Sullivan, the team put their best foot forward at the championships as they walked away with 18 medals in total, 12 bronze and 6 silver.

Speaking with Coach Tom upon their return, he told Wicklow News, “We’re obviously delighted with our medal wins at the International Championships. Unfortunately we can’t bring everyone but we do want to acknowledge our students who didn’t come this time. We know that all the guys trained really hard over the last year for the championships.

At Leinster TaeKwon Do we focus on consistent development. Everyone develops their skills at different speeds. The focus is on showing up, on your commitment to your discipline and the consistent dedication to improving step by step. Small steps or big steps once they are an improvement on the previous day. We do alot of work on coordination, Balance, disciple and personal development, all of which are great life skills as well as TaekWon Do skills.

TaeKwon do is a great sport for families as it is suitable for all ages. This year in particular, we had a strong delegation of teenage girls who brought home quite a few medals between them.

Classes are catered for anyone aged 4 to adult. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if your child has additional needs and we would be delighted to help answer any questions we can,” Tom continued.

If you or a family member would like to give TaeKwon Do a try, Tom & Caroline run classes across Wicklow and North Wexford and can be contacted on Facebook, Instagram or by phone on 086 386 2020
