Young Wicklow Film Maker John Hughes releases his mini docuseries ‘The Definition of Art’

John Hughes and Conor Mullen Parkmore Studios

What exactly is art? Who gets to decide what is or isn’t art? What is the definition of Art? Just some of the many questions that crossed John Hughes’ mind before he embarked on one of his latest mini docuseries. Hughes who is the man behind Parkmore Studios in Baltinglass decide to take a deep dive into the world of art in a selection of its different forms and really interrogate minds to see what their definition of art is.

Episode 1 released last Tuesday on Youtube and features local tattoo artist Theo of Soul Dunkel Tattoo in Kiltegan.

Baltinglass man John had intended to create a full length documentary series showcasing the many local artists and their various unique takes on art as both a subject and a skill. However, as is often the case with artistic minds, new ideas kept flowing and he found himself simultaneously embarking on a full length feature film.

With that in mind, John opted to complete his mini series and release it in episodes for viewers to enjoy. Meanwhile, he will continue work on ‘The Fuel of Youth’, a film which centres on three young adults who struggle to cope with their dysfunctional lives after one tragic incident leaves them in severe anguish. Three interrelated stories following the lives of Nena, Sean and Alan.

This feature film has been made possible with the assistance of Creative Places Baltinglass, The Arts Council, Wicklow County Council and The Wicklow County Arts Office.

There are 10 episodes in all , each featuring a local artist in a different artistic field.

Episode 2 of ‘The Definition of Art’ releases on Youtube next Tuesday, 25th July @ 6.30pm.
