‘Steer clear of the deer’: Wicklow Mountains National Park advise walkers to keep safe distance from deer

Glendalough is a popular walking trail in rain or shine, but Wicklow Mountains National Park are urging walkers to keep a safe distance from any deer they may come across.

Wicklow Mountains National Park warned “Deer are wild animals and are usually scared of people approaching them. However, in Glendalough, many of the deer have become used to human company and seem quite comfortable approaching and being approached by people.

“Although it is possible to get very close, it is important to respect these wild animals, give them their space, and keep a safe distance from them wherever possible. This is especially important in the coming weeks as the Stags are rutting and are more aggressive and territorial at this time of year.”
