Almost 50% of drivers want accompanied driver rule for learners scrapped

A recent survey has shown that 49% of drivers would like to see the accompanied driver rule for learner drivers scrapped.

The accompanied driver rule means that learners must be accompanied by a fully-licenced driver (for two years or more) whenever they take to the road.

Carried out by Aviva Insurance, the survey found that 25% of drivers want to see the rule removed until the backlog is cleared. While 19% believe that an amnesty should be given to learners due to the backlog.

Interestingly, 44% of those who want to see the rule removed were between the ages of 18-24, and 53% of those who do not want to see the rule removed were men.
