Cllr. Grace McManus announces that she is stepping down from Wicklow County Council

Sinn Féin Councillor for Bray East, Grace McManus, announces that she is stepping down from Wicklow County Council and will not contest the next local elections.

Making the announcement yesterday, Grace said “Today I have submitted my letter stepping down from Wicklow County Council. I did not take this decision lightly, and have been considering this change for several months. The conclusion I have come to is that it is the right time for me to step away.

“While it genuinely has been an enormous privilege to sit in this seat, my truth is that I cannot continue to give this role the time and energy that it requires. Being a good activist sometimes means realising that you are no longer the person needed in certain positions, and that is true for me now.

“I will continue to be a Sinn Féin activist locally, support my replacement on the council, and remain as committed as ever to compassionate and positive politics. In 2019 we ran on the platform of ‘if you change nothing, nothing changes;, and in the spirit of living my values, it is time for me to make a personal change.

“I want to convey my deepest gratitude to every person who voted for me, who shared their story with me over the years, to family and friends who were endlessly supportive in the tough times, and to all the amazing people who work to make Bray and Wicklow a better place.”
