Congratulations to students all across Wicklow receiving Junior Cert results today

Students in Wicklow today can finally take a breath of relief knowing that their first major exams are finished and have paid off in one way or another.

A record number of Junior Cert students received their results today, with a 5% increase on 2022, or amounting to 70,727 students overall.

The results were released at 4PM today.

Junior Cert results day has always been a day to rejoice and also a day to reflect on future possibilities. The end results will be cause to celebrate for some, and for others it might carry a bitter taste, but for every student it is a chance to evaluate personal strengths, weaknesses, and where to go from here.

Students all across Wicklow today received their results in those familiar envelopes, while some might have opted to access them online. One thing is for certain – the path to the Leaving Cert is going to look much clearer.

Minister for Education, Norma Foley, said “Through the energy and dedication you have applied to your school lives to date, you have attained a great deal of knowledge and developed a myriad of talents, skills and ambitions which will pave the way as you embark on the next stage of your education journey,” she said.

“I want to congratulate you and wish you all the very best for those exciting next steps that lie ahead.

I would also like to take the opportunity to recognise and thank your families, teachers and school communities for the many ways in which they have worked to guide and support you towards reaching this milestone today.”

This year was the very first time the number of Junior Certificate candidates exceeded 70,000.

Whether it was top marks across the board or a disappointing result in the end, each student can hold their heads up high today knowing that they’ve taken the first big step in their educational journeys.

And to those students who are feeling disappointed today, it is important to remember that this is not a failure. It is a chance to look at the subjects from a new angle and to explore ways in which you can grow as a person and as a student. You have just come out of one of the most stressful periods in modern history, namely the Covid-19 pandemic, and it has taken a lot of strength and resolve to get to where you are today, and to where you are going in the future. There is no shame in that whatsoever.
