This year’s EcoTrail Wicklow event saw 1,300 runners from all over the world descend on Co.Wicklow for the three-day event.
The rain wasn’t enough to dissuade the EcoTrail diehards from taking up their bibs yesterday and running through courses that took them on a journey through Wicklow’s beautiful countryside. And while the weather certainly created its own challenges, it appears that the participants were only happy to take it on.
“Horrendous weather, but it made it so much more fun” said one EcoTrail participant.
The winner of the 80k, which began at 7:30AM, was Yoann Stuck, a prolific trailer from France who has made his mark throughout the world. And even though he won the race, Yoann has expressed an interest in returning so he can enjoy the county at a slower pace.
“I will have to go back to see the scenery” he said, “It’s a great event with a lot of people involved. As I said, I’m leaving with fond memories in mind.”
Bray TD John Brady, who was also participating in the even, wrote “Beautiful conditions for the EcoTrail in Bray this morning. It was wet, windy and cold, what more could you ask for? Absolutely fantast event.“
The EcoTrail event first started in Paris in 2008, and from there it blossomed throughout Europe while bringing runners from all walks of life together and establishing a global rapport that continues to this day.
The first EcoTrail Wicklow took place in 2019 and has brought thousands of people from all over the world to our county.
