Wicklow added to Status Orange alert as Storm Babet causes heavy flooding in Cork

Met Éireann has added Wicklow and Wexford to a list of counties under the status Orange weather warning alert as Storm Babet rages on.

The Status Orange weather alert will remain in place for Wicklow and Wexford until 8pm tonight.

Storm Babet has already caused extensive flooding in Cork as it rages along the South, causing Cork City Council to ask motorists to avoid parts of the city experiencing heavy flooding. There have also been numerous road closures due to the storm.

The national forecaster have warned that there may be a “small chance” that homes and businesses could be flooded due to the storm, and it may cause damage to some buildings. This may also lead to deep floodwater, communities being cut off due to flooded roads, and the potential for power outages to homes and businesses.

Storm Babet is expected to last until Saturday.

There is a Yellow Weather Warning in place for most of the country.
