46 people in Wicklow are accessing emergency accommodation

46 people in Wicklow are among the 13,179 people nationwide who are accessing emergency accommodation.

The latest Department of Housing figures show that there has been a 15% increase since October of last year, and even more worryingly, that a record number of children are growing up in these conditions – a total of 3,991 children are currently in emergency accommodation.

However, the homelessness crisis is felt most severely in Dublin, where 9,713 people are registered as homeless, including 3,000 children.

And perhaps most concerning of all, the figures released by the Department of Housing do not reflect the true extent of the crisis as it omits rough sleepers, women in refuge centres, asylum seekers, and what we know call the ‘hidden homeless’.
