Wicklow TD Jennifer Whitmore has called for a full investigation by Iarnród Éireann following an outage to overhead DART lines last night. The incident, which resulted in passengers having to deboard the train between Bray and Shankill, is a cause of concern regarding passenger and staff safety.
Deputy Whitmore said: “I was very concerned to learn about the deboarding of a DART last night between Bray and Shankill. An outage to power in overhead lines along the DART line is very serious, and when it results in passengers having to walk along the tracks at night, questions have to be asked about how this happened.
“While I have no doubt that the staff of Iarnród Éireann did all to ensure the safety of all involved, people will have been very nervous. This should not have happened, and we need to know as soon as possible if there are any works required across the line to update the infrastructure in order to prevent this from happening again.
“I will raise this issue with Iarnród Éireann and the National Transport Authority. The DART is a key amenity for us here in East Wicklow, and we must ensure its smooth running into the future.”
