Motorists in Wicklow advised to be ready for winter conditions

Wicklow County Council have advised motorists to be prepared for potentially treacherous driving conditions this winter.

Some of the advice offered by Wicklow CoCo included; making sure all of your lights and headlamps are clean and operational; making sure your water reservoir is topped-up to maximum and is correctly mixed with anti-freeze; check your dipstick and top up on oil if necessary, look for signs of leakage around the vehicle; ensure your electrics are functional, check your dashboard before and after starting the engine; clean your windshield wipers regularly and change every 12 months; check your vehicle’s owner’s manual to see if it has any safety assist technology.

Wicklow CoCo also advised motorists on emergency equipment to have in your car, including:

A high-visibility vest
A hazard warning triangle
Torch with charged batteries
First aid kit
Spare fuses and bulbs
De-icing equipment
Map or GPS
Approprtiate clothing and footwear, in case you must exit the vehicle
A charged mobile phone
Food and drink supplies to sustain yourself and passengers
