Parents and volunteers wow audience at Greystones NS Strictly Come Dancing Event

The Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser for Greystones Community National School was declared a resounding success following a sellout show last Friday night in the Park View Hotel, Newtownmountkennedy.

The event was organised by the Parent Teacher Partnership of Greystones Community National School with the support of Dance Greystones.

Hundreds of supporters flocked to see a wonderful, entertaining performance where twenty-four parents and volunteers daringly stepped out of their comfort zone and valiantly took to the stage to raise funds for sensory equipment and a sports track for the children of the school.

The big winners at the end of the night were Cllr Mark Barry and Rachel Rigney, with their performance of Lady Marmalade. Runners up were Peter O’Sullivan and Nastassja Pretorius with Saturday Night Fever, and in third place Fiona Toolan and Paul Murphy with Chicago.

Fiona Toolan, Chair of the PTP (Parent Teacher Partnership), said: “I would like to commend all the dancers and organisers of this event, who put in such an incredible amount of time and effort into the preparation and holding of this wonderful evening. We began dancing practice 6 weeks ago with 24 amazing dancing volunteers, but also a host of other support people in the background. A huge amount of teamwork between parents, the school staff and dancing volunteers over the last number of weeks has resulted in outstanding success for our amazing kids at the school.  And of course, we would like to thank our main sponsors, Eire Og, South Beach Clinic, Nikafit and Storm Recruitment as well as the many local businesses for sponsoring our dancers and those that supported our raffle”.

Alice O’Donnell, Chair of the Board of Management of the school said: “A huge thanks to the PTP for all their work in organising this amazing Strictly fundraiser. It was a really entertaining night, I was blown away by the talent both on and off the stage. The Board of Management is looking forward to seeing the new running track and sensory facilities in operation. The spirit of the parents and teachers in this school is second to none and the local business community were very generous in their sponsorship. The children who attend CNS will benefit from the new facilities long into the future. Well done to all involved!”.
