Plans to accommodate 950 Ukrainian refugees in Glendalough will no longer go ahead

The plans to accommodate the refugees were scrapped following backlash when it was found that the community were not consulted beforehand.

The Department of Integration only weeks ago had confirmed that 950 Ukrainian refugees would be housed in Glendalough Estate.

However, the plans have been scrapped after concerns were raised regarding the lack of communication with local residents.

Councillor Shay Cullen said “There has been absolutely no communication whatsoever with the community, community representatives, or public representatives.”

The lack of appropriate amenaties in the area for such a large influx of people was also a major concern for the community.
