Blessington community launches new coffee cup initiative in big leap toward sustainability

The Blessington community will help reduce single-use plastic waste while encouraging collaboration between local businesses with their new coffee cup initiative.

2GoCup have joined forces with the Blessington community to introduce the initiative, which would see local businesses adopting reusable coffee cups in an attempt to heavily reduce the amount of single-plastic waste within the community.

Eco-conscious consumers will be able to avail of the reusable cups at four outlets in the town, greatly improving and encouraging sustainability in the process.

Cllr Aoife Flynn Kennedy, Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, lauded the collective effort, stating: “The introduction of this sustainable coffee cup initiative in Blessington signifies our commitment to building a circular economy. It’s inspiring to witness local businesses like Pistachio, Moody Rooster, VDA Coffee, and Greenway Café and the community collaborating to tackle plastic waste, showcasing our dedication to a more sustainable future.”

Emer O’Gorman, Chief Executive, Wicklow County Council, echoed this sentiment, saying: “This partnership between 2GoCup and local businesses exemplifies the power of collective action in waste reduction. By embracing reusable alternatives, we’re fostering a stronger, more sustainable community in Blessington.”

This initiative not only adheres to environmental best practices but also strengthens community bonds, emphasizing the shared goal of preserving the town’s natural beauty and resources.
