Boxing champion Siofra Lawless returns to school with hero’s welcome

Siofra Lawless (16) became a junior world champion in Yerevan last weekend.

The hometown hero returned to Temple Carrig School in Greystones yesterday and was greeted with a hero’s welcome by her classmates and teachers, who applauded the teenger on her monmentous victory over India’s Shrusti Sathe last weekend at the World Junior Boxing Championships in Yerevan, Armenia.

The Greystones athlete, who boxes out of Kilcoole’s Four Kings Boxing Club, defeated her opponent by unanimous decision.

She returned to school proudly carrying her boxing trophy, and was greeted with massive applause from the many students and teachers at Temple Carrig.

It was a successful weekend for Ireland at the World Junior Boxing Championships, as not only did Siofra take home the gold, but so did Mullingar’s John Donoghue (15).
