Census statistics from 2022 show a 173% increase in people working from home compared to 2016.
While the working conditions during the pandemic is a major factor in this increase, the interesting findings by the CSO may also point to a cultural shift post-covid-19.
The latest figures have shown that 747,961 were working from home in 2022 (at least one day per week), accounting for 32% of workers.
2,320,297 people were in employment at the time of the census, while the number of retired people stood at 657,790.
Remote working has become popular in recent years, with many companies offering jobs (such as administration) on a remote working basis.
