New road safety course to offer discount to second-level students

The new road safety course, coming next September, will allow second-level students in Ireland to pay less to sit their driving theory test.

The Department of Education and the Road Safety Authority will roll out the new course as an imperative to reduce road accidents.

Minister for Education, Norma Foley, is asking the RSA to provide discounts on exams to students who complete the course. The Minister has also said that she would like to see students awarded credits toward their driving-theory test upon completion of the course.

The course comes amid the worrying rise in road fatalities and accidents over the last number of years, with 177 people losing their lives on Irish roads this year alone.
