There was an 8% increase in domestic violence calls to Gardaí in 2023

The latest figures from An Garda Síochána show an 7% increase in domestic violence calls this year.

Over 54,000 calls were made to An Garda Síochána this year relating to domestic abuse complaints.

In light of these latest figures, An Garda Síochána are renewing their call to anyone suffering domestic abuse or gender based violence to contact them or in the event of an emergency, to call 999/112.

In order to expand their abilities to respond to high-risk victims, Gardaí have adopted a measure known as the Domestic Abuse Risk Evaluation Tool, which allows them to assess situations and respond accordingly and with haste.

Detective Chief Superintendent, Garda National Protective Services Bureau, Colm Noonan has stated that the Christmas period can be a particularly difficult time for those suffering from domestic abuse at the hands of their partners, and that An Garda Síochána are committed to supporting these victims, investigating crimes, and prosecuting offenders.
