Councillors Create Proposal for Purchase of 16.4 Acres of Bray Land

Cllr. Aoife Flynn Kennedy and Cllr. Rory O’Connor have put forward a proposal for the acquisition of Old Court Demesne, a historic 16.4-acre site in the heart of Bray, prioritizing housing opportunities while respecting the area’s environmental and heritage value.

The centerpiece of the proposal is the development of sustainable, community-oriented housing which includes affordable, social, and cost rental. This initiative aims to help meet the growing demand for homes, while integrating the housing within the natural beauty of the area.

Alongside housing, the proposal places a strong emphasis on protecting and enhancing the environmental richness of Old Court Demesne. The area’s historical structures, including a Georgian farmhouse and a 15th-century tower house, are considered integral to the project. The Georgian farmhouse is planned to be preserved and used as a social enterprise such as a cafe alongside its use as a place for societies to meet.

Cllr. Aoife Flynn Kennedy said “This is a unique chance to create something truly special in the heart of our community. By focusing on affordable housing, we are not only addressing a critical need but also protecting our environment and celebrating our rich heritage. This opportunity to make a lasting, positive impact on Bray is one we cannot afford to miss.”

Cllr. Rory O’Connor added “With this ambitious proposal, we are setting a new standard in urban development. By combining high quality housing with our commitment to environmental stewardship and heritage conservation, we are crafting an area of high-quality living. This development isn’t just about building homes; it’s about creating a vibrant, sustainable community that will serve as a model for future projects, benefiting both current residents and generations to come.”
