Éire Óg Greystones call on prospective referees amid shortage in Wicklow GAA

Éire Óg Greystones are calling for people to sign up to become referees as shortage causes ‘major effect’ on adult and juvenile fixtures.

Do you want to keep fit while staying involved in the game you love? Well Éire Óg Greystones are calling on you to put your whistle where you mouth is.

If you want to learn more about the game or give something back to the community, Éire Óg Greystones are asking you to contact them at secretary.eireoggreystones.wicklow@gaa.ie about becoming a match official.

Only weeks ago Coiste na nÓg Chairman, Tiernán de Hál, called on clubs all around Wicklow to produce at least one referee to preside as match officials in order for teams to compete in the 2024 programme.

The juvenile clubs are particularly at risk, with the shortage of referees causing major difficulties putting together programmes for them in 2024.

The subject of the referee shortage was a large focus at the Wicklow GAA Convention in Echelon Park, Aughrim last December.
