The debate is over – Wicklow’s favourite tea brand is revealed!

A cuppa tae is a sacred thing on the shores of our little country, that much is for certain. However, there has long been a division over which tea brand is superior – Barry’s or Lyons? Well, Tesco have committed themselves to research this most controversial topic, and the numbers are finally in.

Tesco’s research team have found that Wicklow favours Barry’s Tea (52%) over Lyons (48%), and while Barry’s has won out over Lyons on a tight enough margin, we feel that there is much more to this conversation than meets the eye.

In fact, data has also shown that customers bought 2.3 million boxes on tea bags in 2023.

Among these findings, Tesco have also laid to rest a number of other debates regarding Wicklow’s favourite shopping day picks.

Tesco sales data has revealed that:

  • Over three quarters of customers in Wicklow chose Heinz over Chef Tomato Ketchup (76% vs. 24%).

Clubcard Unpacked data shows:

  • Milk was top of the shops last year, ranking #1, #2, #3 and #5 in the top five list of most purchased items in 2023.
  • The last top 5 spot was ripe for the taking with avocado ranking #4 in the top five list.
  • The nation’s favourite lunch meal deal has been revealed as the Tesco Chicken Tikka Wrap, Walkers Cheese & Onion Crisps and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar.

They have also found that the top selling items in 2023 were:

  1. Tesco Fresh Milk (2 Litre)
  2. Tesco Full Fat Milk (3 Litre)
  3. Tesco Fresh Milk (1 Litre)
  4. Tesco Ripe & Ready Avocado
  5. Tesco Low Fat Milk (2 Litre)
