Assessment to be carried out on Arklow building earmarked for asylum seekers

The Department of Intergration has confirmed that a derelict building in Arklow is being assessed for suitability to house asylum seekers.

The owners of the Eir building on the Emeclew Road have offered the building up to house asylum seekers from Ukraine.

If the property is deemed suitable for use, further communication will be issued in advance to all elected representatives and members of the local community.

The move has been met with controversy, however, and protests have taken place this week, with a larger protest being organised for this coming Saturday.

The protest is being organised by a group called Arklow Says No and will take place outside the building in question.
