Wicklow man appears in court for reckless driving after crashing into Dublin bus

A 34-year-old man from Roundwood has appeared before Dublin District Court following a charge of reckless driving last November.

The court heard that the man had drank vodka and used cocaine less than an hour before he drove on the wrong side of the road and crashed into a Dublin bus at the Greenhills Road in Dublin 12 on the 21st of November 2023.

The man was disqualified from driving for two years and fined 900 euro after pleading guilty to a drink driving offence and careless driving in connection with the incident.

The man’s solicitor pleaded for leniency from the court, claiming that his client was suffering from addiction and that he has since attended treatment programmes to address these issues. The court was shown letters from the treatment centre the man attended and were told that he was now drug-free.

Judge Teresa Kelly reiterated the serious nature of the case, and the man made no reply when charged. It is understood that he has previous convictions for drug possession, traffic offences, and a theft offence for ‘making off without payment.’
