Wicklow mountain rescue teams come to aid of two injured women in Glenmalure and Glendalough

It was yet another busy weekend for the Glen of Imaal Irish Red Cross Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and The Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team – who were tasked with two simultaneous rescues on Saturday afternoon.

Both mountain rescue teams responded to a call-out at Fraughan Rock Glen, Glenmalure, where a 47-year-old woman was suffering from a lower-leg injury and could not be moved any further from her location. While MR personnel located and treated the casualty on site, weather conditions made it too difficult for a helicopter extraction, so instead the casualty was lifted by stretcher from her location before being transferred to a Mountain Rescue vehicle and later transferred over to the National Ambulance Service.

This incident was stood down at 19:21 hrs.

And within an hour of the first call out, the teams were tasked with rescuing a 52-year-old woman who was also suffering from a lower-leg injury in neighbouring Glendalough, on the Spinc route.

After a stretcher carry the casualty was transferred to an awaiting mountain rescue vehicle before handed over to the National Ambulance Service.

The incident was stood down at 17:04 hrs
