Heavy snowfall leads to busy weekend for Wicklow Mountain Rescue teams

The Dublin-Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team had a busy day on Friday as snow began to fall upon the Wicklow Hills.

At around lunch time on Friday the 1st of March, Dublin-Wicklow Mountain Rescue and Glen of Imaal Irish Red Cross Mountain Rescue were called out to aid two hikers who had camped overnight close to the Djouce Mountain.

Two mountain rescue 4×4 vehicles were dispatched to look for the two people. Both were found uninjured and transported back to base to be picked up by a family member.

While returning to base, one of the vehicles was flagged down by a car stuck in snow, with two occupants. The two people were driven off the hill in a mountain rescue vehicle as they were cold and unsure how long they would have to wait for a tow truck. Both were brought back to Laragh to wait for a tow truck.
