Arklow RNLI launches following report of large yacht adrift near Arklow bank

Arlow RNLI responded to an alert that a large yacht had come into difficulty near the Arklow Bank at 6.30am on Tuesday morning.

Responding quickly, the charity’s volunteers launched in the All-Weather Lifeboat Ger Tigchlearr and made their way towards the reported position some 18 miles South East of Arklow.

Once the crew arrived, it was established that the large 16-metre vessel had developed engine failure. It was agreed that the vessel would be taken under tow back to Arklow.

The lifeboat and the casualty vessel with four crew aboard arrived back at Arklow by around 10.30am where it was secured on the pontoons in the inner dock. All hands came ashore safely.

Arklow RNLI’s volunteers on this callout were, Coxswain Ned Dillon, James Russell, Station Mechanic, Craig O’Reilly, John Tyrrell, David Molloy, Cillian Kavanagh & Josh McAnaspie

Following the rescue, Jimmy Myler, Deputy Launch Authority said: “Huge Thanks once again to our volunteer crew both onshore and on the lifeboat , who at a moments notice go to sea to assist others,  whether day or night, please remember to respect the water”
