Cronin calls for improved road safety measures for Donard

Fine Gael Cllr for the Baltinglass MD, Cllr Avril Cronin has said that road safety is a huge concern in Donard, for both pedestrians and motorists.

“I have received a number of calls and emails from local residents concerned about road safety from the Day Care Centre and the Primary School in Donard.  The Donard Day Care centre provides a vital childcare service for families in the area, also providing an after school service which benefits many working families. “Said Cronin

Cronin continued, “Children are walking to and from the Day Care Centre to the Primary school and safety is a concern for all. We want to encourage people to become more active, and walk where possible”.

I have raised this with Wicklow County Council and the engineers have been on site to access the road in the view of improving safety for all concerned, said Cronin

Cllr Cronin continued, “with plans for new developments in the pipeline within the area, I would hope that a footpath could be considered in the future. Unfortunately as it stands the road is too narrow to allow for a footpath”

Recently, the speed limits have been changed within the school zone and the signs have been moved approaching the village to encourage motorist to slow down on approach.

“I will continue to work with Wicklow County Council and the local community on this matter,” said Cronin.
