Independent candidate calls for free parking on days Dart and rail services are suspended

Orla Finn, Independent candidate in the forthcoming Local Elections in the Greystones, Delgany, Kilcoole and Newcastle area, has this week called for free parking on the Saturdays that Bray and Greystones have no Dart or rail services.

Orla said “I have recently spoken to a number of  business owners, all of whom  expressed their dismay that was  no DART or rail services between Grand Canal Docks and Greystones over the Easter weekend or again from Saturday 4th May – Monday 6th May or on Saturday 18th May.

I know that this comes as a huge blow to our local businesses, many of whom have had a very tough time over the past few years. I think that we can all agree that our local businesses are the backbone of our economy, provide employment opportunities locally, and are known to play a significant role in supporting local community charities and causes.

While we all understand that Irish Rail need to undertake vital infrastructural work to maintain the integrity of the line, we must ask ourselves what additional measures can we put in place to help our local businesses on the weekends when there are no DART and rail services?

I am calling on Wicklow County Council to provide FREE PARKING in BRAY & GREYSTONES  on each of the SATURDAYS affected.  The introduction of free parking by Wicklow County Council on those Saturdays that we have no DART or rail services would definitely support our local businesses and mitigate the impact of business lost”.
