David Smyth Ashford

David Smyth of Kiloughter, Ashford, Co. Wicklow died peacefully in Marymount Hospice, Cork on December 27th 2020 having moved recently to live with his daughter.

He will be greatly missed by his children Stuart and Lucy, sister Valerie Leech, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

A private funeral will take place in Cork on Wednesday the 30th of December.

David grew up in Blackrock, Co. Dublin. He was part of the folk music revival in Dublin in the late 1950s, singing solo and with groups including The Press Gang. He met his wife Sally in the Irish Mountaineering Club. He was an amazing and wonderful family man, and mountaineer, canoeist, kite flyer, gardener, bird watcher, landscape photographer and lover of books,movies and music, particularly jazz.

He enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a medical photographer in Sir Patrick Dun’s and St James’s Hospitals during which time he forged many great friendships.

The family would like to sincerely thank all those involved in David’s medical care in Dublin and Cork.
